Just a few choice
items to spice up your 2005.
February 8: International Pancake
Day, described on its site as a "friendly little competition
between Liberal (KS) and Olney, England, with women running down
the streets of each town flipping pancakes," No doubt it's
true that it is "still the only race of its kind on the planet."
March
20: National Agriculture Day, falls, as this site points out,
"during National Ag Week, March 20-26, 2005, a time when producers,
agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government
agencies and countless others across America gather to recognize
and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture." Good
stuff for kids to understand.
April 18-24: The International Whistlers'
Convention, in Louisburg, North Carolina, "The World's
Whistling Capital," according to this site.
May 1 (Deadline for application):
STARS is The National Association for Sport and Physical Education's
national achievement program recognizing outstanding physical
education programs in K-12 schools across America. Let your school
know about this one, perhaps?
August 3: Miss
Crustacean Hermit Crab Beauty Contest, Ocean City, New Jersey.
Need we say more?
September 22 every
year: Elephant Appreciation Day, sponsored by an elephant enthusiast
who simply provides fun and informative stuff at this site to celebrate
the world's largest land animal. There is no central event, to tickets
to buy, no lines, no spilled juice boxes. Enjoy!
Hey, by October, you'll start worrying about next year's To-Do list!
