Summer Game Maker Competition
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 15!
To learn more about Game Maker, a free video-game building tool on the Web, read the Wikipedia article
at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_maker.
As that article says, Game Maker is a free piece of software that can be upgraded for $20. The competition
described below is being hosted by an Education World At Home reader who emailed us about it! The reader
– a student – asked Education World to give some prizes, and so we shall!
The contest features programming software called Game Maker (Aka GM). Go to: http://gamemaker.nl/
to download the software for free. You can upgrade, but you do not have to in order to successfully compete
in this contest!
Your task: in two months you must create an original and fun educational game using GM. The game can be
of any genre (provided it’s appropriate for school), can teach about any number of subjects, and can
be contributed to by up to five people. All team members must be 18 or younger and still enrolled in K-12
for the coming school year. You have to start from scratch, using only what you and your team can make in
the 62 days allowed. Anyone found to be violating a copyright will be immediately disqualified.
The game will be judged on the following aspects:
- Originality – 25%
- Images – 15%
- Education – 30%
- Fun – 15%
- Sounds/Music – 13%
- Story – 12%
Education World is going to donate the following prizes, to be awarded by the reader who is conducting
this contest. All judgments regarding the contest will be made by this independent reader and are final.
Good luck!
