I have a small bulletin board that I have titled "You've Got Mail." Next to the board is a cup with every student’s name on a piece of paper. When a student has free time, he or she may draw a name out of the cup and write a letter to the person whose name is drawn.

The catch? The letter must include five writing errors-- spelling, grammar, capitalization, and so on. When the letter is completed, signed, and addressed, it’s posted on the bulletin board to be collected by the addressee, read... and CORRECTED! This is a great way for students to practice writing and editing skills while "legally" passing notes in class. The kids love it.
