ABA Promotes Discussions on Law, Liberty
The American Bar Association (ABA) is encouraging lawyers to visit schools and talk with students about democratic values and promote conversations about the country’s response to terrorism.

County Sees Results from All-Day Kindergarten
Low-income students who attended an all-day kindergarten program in Montgomery County, Maryland, showed marked academic gains, according to a study of 16,000 youngsters over two years. Students in the program also were closing the gap with higher-performing peers.

States Revise Reading Plans
Twenty-nine out of the 40 states that applied for $900 million in federal Reading First grants have been told to revise their applications to ensure they met federal requirements. State officials were told this summer that those reviewing the applications would be looking for evidence that grant money would be used for "scientifically based"materials, professional development, and instruction, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
