Students add competitive event times, expressed in decimals, to determine the overall competition winner.

Lesson Plan
A chart provides the best times three teams achieve in four different track events. Students add the times, taking care to ensure that the decimal point is properly placed. Then they use the chart to answer the questions. (This lesson highlights summer events, but it could be easily adapted to include events of the Winter Olympic Games.) Assessment
Students correctly add with decimals and answer the work sheet questions, achieving a score of 80 percent or better.
