Brief Description
This lesson is designed to show students how to organize information by using the alphabet.

- use alphabetical order to organize material;
- alphabetize with the first, second, and third letters of a set of words;
- discover applications for alphabetical order.

Lesson Plan
In the activities suggested in the lesson Alphabetize for a Reason, students review and practice the skill of using alphabetical order. Ten suggested exercises include lining up by first or last name, using the phone book and dictionary, and organizing library books. The lesson is part of the The Big 6 Web site.
Assessment
All the activities fully engage the group and can be evaluated through teacher observation.
