Brief Description

Students follow four basic rules to draw like an Egyptian. Display students' paintings in a classroom art gallery.

Objectives

Students
  • explore samples of ancient Egyptian paintings in books and/or online.
  • review the four rules in the "draw like an Egyptian" activity.
  • create paintings that incorporate the four rules.

Materials Needed

  • drawing paper
  • pencil

Lesson Plan

Begin this activity with the following instructions:
Egyptian art is plain and simple. You too can draw like an Egyptian by following the four easy rules. You need only a pencil, crayons, and unlined paper.

The Draw Like an Egyptian lesson (alternate source) is from the Ancient Egypt page of the Virtual Ancient Civilizations unit from Urbana (Illinois) Middle School.
