Materials Needed

Lesson Plan

During the month of May, we celebrate the achievements of U.S. residents of Asian and Pacific-Island heritage. The month, known as Asian Pacific American Heritage (APA) Month, recognizes the immigration of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843.

Classroom Activities
Focus on the life and work of children's author Allen Say.

  • Share a different Allen Say book each day in leading up to the live chat.
  • Read a brief biography of Allen Say.
  • Share the text of a previous interview with Allen Say.
  • You will find many additional activities related to Allen Say's work on the Eduplace Web site at Allen Say Book Connections. There you can also find a biography and an interview. Students might write letters to Allen Say using his name and the Houghton Mifflin address.
