Lesson Plan
If you are an art teacher, this lesson is a good one to do as Teacher Appreciation Week approaches. In this lesson, students will design Teacher Appreciation Week greeting cards to give to their teachers.
Introduce students to the following resource in printed form or online:
That resource shares more than 50 possible expressions of thanks that students can use as they create their Teacher Appreciation Week cards. Each of the ideas pairs a thing with an expression of thanks that relates to that thing. For example,
apple
If teachers were like apples, I'd pick you.
book
I'll "book" you as my teacher any day!
Share the long list of Teacher Thank You Ideas with students and have each student choose a different idea for a card she or he will create.
The format for each card will be the same:
an illustration of the thing on the cover of the card
the expression of thanks written inside along with the signature of the student.
Have students present their cards to teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Extra Challenge
Of course students don't have to use one of the provided objects and sentiments. If you teach older students, they might make up their own personal expressions to go along with an object.
Assessment
Did students take care in creating their cards?
