Who It's For: Anyone

Description: :
meme: (pron. 'meem') A contagious idea that replicates like a virus, passed on from mind to mind. A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.
Lucy Gray, a teacher in Chicago, Illinois, started this Google Earth meme as a way to pay tribute to teachers who have made a difference in the lives of others and to share memorable learning experiences around the world. Participants write a blurb about a teacher who influenced their lives and/or a favorite learning moment. They then create a placemark in Google Earth and enter their blurb in the placemark’s descriptive field. Finally, participants tap others to join the meme. The project is designed to offer participants a chance to recognize and celebrate people, and to encourage them to explore Google Earth and learn how to add placemarks and e-mail files. For further instructions on how to participate, visit Gray’s blog. For more about memes, visit Answers.com.

more fun is the Go Hunting link, at which potential readers can search for the locations of books left in their
area. Not specifically an educational project, BookCrossing can be enjoyed by students, teachers, parents, classrooms,
and families.

Description: Do you have students whose families are not native English speakers? Translate
notes home with this free and easy-to-use tool from Alta Vista. Simply type the message into the blank, select
the languages you want to translate to and from, and then click Translate. The translated text appears in another
blank; you can highlight, copy, and paste that into a Word file or other document, print the Web page, or handwrite
the translation to give to parents. Because the translator is quite literal, messages should be short and direct.
Note: Use this tool only for languages, such as Spanish, French, and Italian, that use the Roman alphabet. Many
Asian or other languages won't appear correctly due to limited language installations on some class or home
