SPECIALIZED ONLINE ENCYCLOPEDIAS

  • Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy This encyclopedia is housed at Stanford University.

  • The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy This encyclopedia, founded by James Fieser of the University of Tennessee at Martin, is managed by an international group of university professors who act as area editors.

  • Informationsphere Infosphere collects information available on the Internet and repackages it in a topic format. (The site owner states that all information on the site is used with the permission of the content's original author.) A search function allows user to search the Web as well as the site.

  • The World Factbook 2001 This CIA site provides basic facts (such as population, government, economy, and maps) about countries around the world.

  • The Encyclopedia Mythica This encyclopedia offers information about mythology, folklore, and legends.

  • Whatis.com This encyclopedia, dedicated to the information technology industry, contains definitions about computers, the Internet, software, and hardware.

  • CountryReports.org This encyclopedia's subtitle states that its purpose is to "eradicate conflict by increasing cultural awareness."

  • Encyclopaedia of the Orient This encyclopedia contains information about North Africa and the Middle East.

  • TechWeb's Technology Encyclopedia This encyclopedia explains computer terms and concepts.

  • Music Heritage Network's Instrument Encyclopedia This encyclopedia contains information about musical instruments.

  • Perseus Encyclopedia The Perseus Encyclopedia provides information about the ancient world, particularly classical Greek and Latin languages and related history and culture.
