This Nation
Bold site with lots of USA info; created by a university professor.
Grade Level: 6-8, 9-12

http://www.thisnation.com/

CONTENT:
Billed as the most comprehensive guide to American government and politics on the Net, this site certainly offers a wealth of information to the average citizen or to teachers and students.
AESTHETICS:
A minimum of graphics and patriotic colors as well as a neat, clean layout make this a very attractive site.
ORGANIZATION:
The site is well organized and easily navigated. A left side menu provides access to the main areas of the site and each of the areas has its own table of contents.
REVIEW:
ThisNation was created by political science professor, Jonathan Mott, Ph.D., as a companion site to his published e-text, but there is a wealth of free information for the voting public as well as students and teachers. The e-text can be accessed for a small fee, but the resource pages and the rest of the site are free. The resource pages cover such topics as Foundations, Institutions, Processes, and Participants of American Government. Resources for each subtopic include historical documents, research and study helps, articles, multimedia, headlines and editorials, and applying what you've learned. There is an extensive library categorized by topics such as historical documents, speeches, Supreme Court decisions, war messages, and much more. Students will find assignments and quizzes. The general public can access the citizen section for more information on voting and finding their elected officials. Included at the site are a glossary, picture index, free wallpaper, today's headlines and much more.
