Hotmath
Homework help based on major textbooks -- free until 2004!
Grade Level: 6-8, 9-12

http://www.hotmath.org/

CONTENT:
Hotmath was created by a group of college professors and high school teachers to provide homework help with actual problems from popular algebra, geometry, or calculus textbooks.
AESTHETICS:
The layout is simple with minimal graphics. Color is used to add visual interest and separate the areas of the page.
ORGANIZATION:
The site is organized into six subject categories. Navigation tabs across the top of the page gives easy access to the subject areas. Each page is linked back to the homepage.
REVIEW:
Hotmath is a great resource for teachers, students, and parents. Note that the site is currently free, but says it will charge a small fee starting next year, ranging from $29 per year for a single student up to $350 for a school with 1,500 or more students. Students needing extra help will find step-by-step solutions for actual problems in their textbook. Each subject area has a list of textbooks that are supported. Students simply click on the textbook they use in the classroom and enter the page number of the problem that is causing them trouble. Solutions for the odd-numbered problems from the textbook are provided. Of course students are encouraged to try and work the problem themselves with pencil and paper before checking the solution. Each solution is written in language students will understand and follows the format of the instructions from the textbook. Parents who need to brush up on their math skills in order to help their teenagers will find this a great place to go for complete explanations. Teachers can use the site as a supplement for those students who may need tutorial work in the classroom. Subject areas included are algebra I, algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus. The pre-algebra section is currently being developed.
