REVIEW:
Smithsonian Education offers a wealth of high quality lesson plans for grades K-12 in the areas of art and design, science and technology, history and culture and language arts. Each of the plans includes an overview, background information, activities, national standards, and resources. The database of lesson plans can be browsed by subject area or searched by grade level, subject, or keyword. If all you need are great resources to include in your own plans then click on the Resource Library in the top navigation bar and search by resource type, media type, keyword, grade level or subject area. Students will have a fun interactive learning experience in the IdeaLabs with topics such as "Walking on the Moon," "Amazing Collections," or "Mr. President." Students will also want to explore the resources by browsing the topics (listed in the left side menu) to discover such exciting activities as creating a sculpture, making a light bulb, building a solar powered invention, or to follow scientists to the Galapagos Islands. There are enough resources here to keep kids engaged in learning for hours. Information is also included for families planning to visit the museum with ideas for making the visit fun and educational and what to do before, during and after the visit.
