Geometry step-by-step From the Land of the Incas
Innovative high-school geometry site.
Grade Level: 9-12

http://agutie.homestead.com/files/index.html

CONTENT:
Geometry Step by Step from the Land of the Incas was created by Antonio Gutierrez and provides an “eclectic mix of sound, science, and Incan history intended to interest students in Euclidean geometry.” Included are problems, puzzles, quizzes, and much more.
SITE DESIGN:
This “Flashy” site is colorful and user friendly. The content is organized into five categories that are available in the left side menu. There is also a top navigation bar with the same category names. The main text of the front page also lists new additions as well as a list of other links. Flash Player, Java 1.3 or higher and JavaScript are required.

REVIEW:
This is a rich resource for teachers and students of geometry. Teachers can use the problems, quizzes, puzzles, proofs, and animations as a great supplement to the geometry curriculum. Students will enjoy learning the theorems and perhaps understand the concepts better by using this interactive site. The problem section contains more than thirty problems that include step-by-step proofs. Many of the problems have corresponding interactive puzzles. The quizzes offer interactive practice with SAT techniques, matching exercises, crosswords and more. Gutierrez uses photos to investigate geometric forms in such places as Cuzco and Machu Picchu, as well as cultural artifacts such as the Ouipu (a system of knotted cords used by the Incas to store massive amounts of information) Nazca Lines that appear engraved in the surface of the desert plateaus, a Flash movie about Peru and much more. Included is a list of quotes that relate to geometry and a section for inspiration that offers animations of such poetic selections as The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost and Rudyard Kipling’s If.
