REVIEW:
This project now in its fifth year allows students to collaborate
with others around the world as they follow the Iditarod Race in
real time right online. Classes create wall maps, study the mushers,
dogs, history, geography and climate, select a team to follow and
email each project checkpoint as their team progresses in the race.
At the site visitors can view the archives of past projects, peruse
teacher testimonials and musher endorsements. Although the official
registration for the project is over, it now has over 600 classes
enrolled, all of the materials and information are there for you
to use as you follow the race in your classroom. Suggestions and
directions are added to the teacher page each week as the project
progresses. The project relies heavily on the Official Iditarod
Site http://www.iditarod.com/ for the real time updates and background
information. Included at the site is a chart that illustrates how
the project relates to multiple intelligences as well as a section
on fact and fiction, concerning the Iditarod, to dispel some of
the controversy that has at times been associated with the race.
