Earth's Birthday Project
Good hands-on approach to celebrating Earth Day year-round!
Grade Level: Pre-K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12

http://www.earthsbirthday.org/

CONTENT:
Earth’s Birthday Project provides teachers with effective Earth Day related learning resources that are fun, free, or inexpensive and easy to implement in the classroom.
SITE DESIGN:
The site’s design is simple and uncluttered. Links are listed on the main page as a table of contents and subsequent pages have a top navigation menu. A few of the links in the body of the Hands on Science section were inoperable but links in the top navigation bar (leading to the same pages) do work.

REVIEW:
The Earth’s Birthday Project provides lots of resources for teachers to plan their Earth Day activities for their classroom as well as hands-on science activities that can be used throughout the year. Teachers will find the resources necessary to prepare their class and participate in the “Big Gift”, a program to help save the rain forests. Included in this section are Amazon Activities for grades preK-8 and Rainforest Exploration lessons for grades K-12 as well as a virtual tour of the Rainforest with photos and poetry. By clicking on the Hands-on Science link and following the links in the navigation menu at the top of the page, users will find information and activities on all kinds of bugs and butterflies such as antlions, luna moths, ladybugs, and praying mantis, as well as how to build a butterfly garden, and enrichment activities that include spiders, insects and more. There are three (grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-7) Ant Web hunts available for download in .pdf format. Rounding out the site are sets of links to more information and resources.
