REVIEW:
The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition offers information and resources for teachers of foreign languages as well as professional development through a summer program and information on their programs and research. Second language teachers will find curriculum materials such as an overview of the National Standards for Foreign Language and a curriculum handbook designed to help teachers move students toward language proficiency. The Handbook includes classroom tasks and activities for teachers of French, German and Spanish with suggestions for adapting them for different levels and languages. There is also a section for Content-Based Language Teaching with Technology that includes instructional strategies, assessment resources and content-based lesson plans and units that include everything you need to implement them in the classroom. The Less Commonly Taught Languages Project database contains information about where students can study over 300 languages at more than 2,000 colleges and universities, as well as at elementary, middle, and high schools. The Virtual Assessment Center offers information on developing “integrated performance assessments” as well as checklists and rubrics. |
