Project Vote Smart
http://www.vote-smart.org/
GRADE LEVEL: 6-12

CONTENT:
Project Vote Smart is a non-partisan Web site that covers government, policy making, and the political process. Teachers can receive free educational guides as well as lesson plans and activities.

AESTHETICS:
This site has very few graphics and is set in frames.

ORGANIZATION:
Users can easily access all sections of the site from the left side menu frame. Information is categorized, and an online search tool is available.

REVIEW:
Project Vote Smart provides users access to the speeches, issue statements, and position papers of candidates and elected officials from their districts. The names of elected officials and candidates for a particular area are easily located by entering the full nine-digit zip code for the area or a candidate's name. Information on registering to vote in each state and election dates are available. Candidates' backgrounds, issue positions, voting records, campaign finances, and performance evaluations are examined. A sampling of legislation making its way through Congress is also explored. Teachers will find classroom activities and lesson plans by following the Vote Smart Old Web link. Go to Vote Smart Classroom and then to Vote Smart Lessons. They include Who Represents Me?, How Congress Works, Campaign Promises, Track the Candidates, and more. This is a must-see site for civics teachers and students in an election year.
