The Symphony: An Interactive Guide
http://library.thinkquest.org/22673/index.html
GRADE LEVEL: K-12, Advanced

CONTENT:
This ThinkQuest entry is a comprehensive resource for all things symphonic, including biographies of great composers and live recordings performed by the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by John Curro.

AESTHETICS:
The design is symmetrical, with plenty of white space and bold lettering. RealAudio is needed to listen to the compositions.

ORGANIZATION:
A simple table on the main page contains the links to the major sections of the site. A left-side navigation menu is present on each page. Users can follow the Quick Tour through the site by clicking Continue the Quick Tour at the bottom of each page. If the embedded text links are followed, it is necessary to use the Back button on the browser to return to the referring page.

REVIEW:
Anyone interested in furthering his or her knowledge of the symphony or music in general will find this site delightful. Users can take the whistle-stop tour for an overview of what's available or go directly to the sections of greatest interest. Information about famous composers is arranged alphabetically and by country, and users may listen to live recordings of famous compositions performed by the Queensland Youth Symphony Orchestra. A time line helps users understand the historical context of symphonic development. Visitors interested in musical structure should check out the Listener's Guides, under Symphonies or take a "crash course" in symphonic form. A complete guide to the instruments of the orchestra, links to relevant Web sites, and interactive quizzes about the symphony are also included.
