Kids 123.com
http://www.kids123.com/
GRADE LEVEL: K-8, Parents

CONTENT:
This free, interactive Web resource, created for kids ages five to 14, has several databases of screened, age-appropriate sites for education and entertainment in an engaging format.

AESTHETICS:
The site has bold graphics and is kid-friendly, with entertaining animations. Visitors will need Flash Player (the site provides a link to download the plug-in).

ORGANIZATION:
The site groups resources into such categories as Themes, Games, School, Parents Resources, and Teachers Resources. The easy-to-use graphical interface is appropriate for even young students. The site is also available in French and Spanish.

REVIEW:
Students, teachers, and parents will find this site an interesting approach to finding educational information and resources quickly. This is not your typical search tool but resource databases of screened sites that can be searched by grade level, subject area, keyword, or topic. With the graphical interface, all students need to do is point and click their way to information. Teachers will find links to lesson plans, professional development resources, and reviewed, age-appropriate sites for their students. The Parents section includes information on such categories as Children With Special Needs, Internet Help, Safety, Museums, and Games. Students will want to check out How It Works, and a special section with some cool Web Cams as well as the Cafeteria for links on nutrition. The Clubhouse Kids Comics section teaches kids to do the right thing in real-life situations and has a new episode each week. A couple of the areas are still under construction, but the existing content is well worth the visit.
