REVIEW:
History of the Cherokee is a good overview, appropriate for use in the classroom. The story of the Cherokee is important in American history. The site tells this story well. The history section begins with the oral history of the Cherokee and includes several traditional legends. The legends begin to blend into traditional practices in A View Of Traditional Cherokee Law. It is from here that the story of Western contact begins, and the inspiring and tragic events leading up to the Trail of Tears (a mid-winter forced march from their homelands in the lush forests of North Carolina to a reservation in Oklahoma). This story of pain and suffering is told from the perspective of a little boy who loses both his parents. The history also looks at the tragic impact that the Civil War had on the remaining Cherokee in the Southern states. Most of the history is told in a story format that young people will enjoy.
