REVIEW:
What could be better than a free, online adventure that educates along the way? Well, here's a place to find them. The website is called World Wide Treasure HuntŠ and the current game is The Pirate Age Hunt but future games will include a wild west theme, the middle ages in Europe and the mysteries of ancient Egypt. The object of each of these games is to find the location of a treasure(s) as quickly as possible while competing against other treasure hunters from around the world. (Teachers can sign their whole classroom up as long as there is only one E-mail account). These games are created by combining historic facts with fictional stories which lets users learn about the customs and traditions of historical civilizations. Once registered, players receive a portion of the story (clues) via email (anyone entering the game at a later date can get the information from the website). Each treasure hunter is allowed up to 10 guesses of the location and winners are judged on key words such as a town name nearest the treasure, a physical object the treasure is near or an exact item that the treasure is hidden in/under. A number of winners for each game will receive an announced prize and the top 25% of the treasure hunters for any of the first 4 hunts (based on the date/time of the winning answer) will be eligible to take part in the World Wide Treasure Hunt Championship hunt. This would make a great team project for classrooms to work together competing against other schools or for teachers to use as a lesson plan for individual students to compete. Another great combination of education and the internet.
