REVIEW:
The Arthur Miller play, "The Crucible," discusses the witchcraft trials in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. This site has background information on the time period and the subject matter; assignments based on each part of the play, and follow-up activities. Users will find maps, along with resources of other writings based on the story. Viewers can see images from the movie based on the play. Related material at the site includes information on other crusades such as the Holocaust, Apartheid, and Pogroms. The information at the site helps in the study of the play but also teaches about its societal context, allowing users to understand how such campaigns occur, even today. This is a great total unit for high school literature teachers. It could also be used by history and, to some extent, political science classes as well.
