Turn-of-the-Century Child
http://www.noodletools.com/debbie/projects/20c/turn.html
GRADE LEVEL: 6-8

CONTENT:
Turn-of-the-Century Child is a set of interdisciplinary social studies lesson plans that utilize a set of historic photos of American children taken between 1900 and 1920.

AESTHETICS:
The Web site is plain and unadorned, but the images of the children are very engaging.

ORGANIZATION:
The site is a little confusing to navigate, but the lessons and content are worthwhile.

REVIEW:
With the new millenium approaching, this is a good time to look back to the beginning of the century and reflect on the many remarkable changes that Americans have made as a culture. The Turn-of-the-Century Child project includes a captivating photo collection with images that reflect a diverse cross section of American society. The lessons guide students, working in small groups, to take on the role of a historian to research and document the significance of the events and surroundings of the children portrayed in the photos. A set of research links is provided. This is an excellent resource!
