REVIEW:
The Odyssey is a great way to introduce your students to world cultures and inspire their spirit of adventure and curiosity. This enthusiastic team of volunteer travelers is exploring a fascinating variety of indigenous cultures and taking a look at some of the social issues affecting the people they meet along the way. The tour includes interviews with important individuals, such as Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu in Guatemala. The team began the Odyssey in January of 1999 in Guatemala and Latin America and has crossed the Atlantic Ocean to explore northern Africa and will move east during the rest of 1999 and 2000. A teacher's resources section includes lesson plans, an archive of the expedition's past materials, and ideas for using the site in the classroom. The Odyssey is free but requires registration to participate. Students are encouraged to contact team members and ask questions or give feedback. A separate section is provided for K-6 students. This is an exceptional site!
