B+ REVIEW:
The National Council for the Social Studies is the largest association in America devoted solely to social studies education. While its emphasis is towards elementary through college teachers of history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law this site has information for teachers and students alike. An especially fun area is called "Kids Connected." Its base information is about social studies but it is presented in such a way as to get students really excited. Topics in the Kids Connected area include: live camera shots from around the world and lists of social studies related books. Other potentially interesting areas are currently under construction. The educator side of the site may not be as fun as the student side, there is a lot of information to be found including "Links to other Internet resources, Affiliated Groups, Local Councils, The American Promise (a three-hour, NCSS-endorsed PBS series that chronicles the fact that grassroots democracy in the United States is alive and well), Recognition Programs, NCSS Annual Conference, Membership Information, Standards and Curriculum, Election Central, News, Teaching Resources and Professional Development. The site is a great resource for educators or students interested in the Social Sciences field.
