History Buff's
http://www.historybuff.com/
GRADE LEVEL: 3-12

CONTENT:
This is one hot-off-the-press American history site! History Buff's is an awesome archive of media coverage of American historic events and includes an extensive, searchable library of both newspapers and Real Audio sound clips.

AESTHETICS:
Lots of great graphics on this site! The site also features a pleasing variety of page layouts and backgrounds that help keep it interesting. I especially liked Ferdinand, History Buff's email catching animated frog.

ORGANIZATION:
This is an easy site to navigate. Each page has navigational buttons at the bottom of the page linking back to the homepage and into the main reference sections.

REVIEW:
This is a great site for fun and out-of-the-ordinary history projects. The site has a wide variety of topics that include the typical ones such as Presidents and Civil War, as well as some more unusual ones such as Journalism Hoaxes, the Old West, Circus Stories, Baseball, Crime Figures, and lots more! Some of these subjects could be great high-interest material to use with older elementary and middle school kids for teaching report-writing skills, or for older students to use as part of more in-depth research projects. All the articles are fun and written in the common English vernacular of their time. Another outstanding resource at History Buff's is the Historic Voices Library of Real Audio sound clips. This collection documents some highly emotional moments in US History including man's first landing on the Moon, excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, the Hindenburg disaster, and JFK's assassination. The site also includes a primer about newspaper collecting, and offers advice about how to get started doing it. This is a site where students can have fun and learn at the same time! Definitely worth bookmarking, keep this one on hand for rainy days!
