In the year 2000, Education World introduced a handful of new content areas. New articles appear at least once a week in each of those areas:
Technology In The Classrooom
At Technology in the Classroom, Education World offers tools and tips to help educators integrate technology into their curricula. Articles in this section highlight successful technology lessons and strategies as well as Web resources of note. In a regular feature, the Education World Tech Team, a group of 35 technology teachers, offers ideas on such topics as rules for computer use, tips for integrating technology, and lessons learned the hard way!
School Issues
At School Issues, Education World news editors Diane Weaver Dunne and Ellen Delisio talk with the movers and shakers in education as they explore the latest hot issues! ADHD, social promotion, and testing were among the issues Dunne and Delisio investigated in detail this year. School Issues also offers e-interviews with education newsmakers; in the year 2000, those newsmakers included the major presidential candidates and Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley. On the lighter side, the editors interviewed teachers of note, including the newly crowned Miss America and a recent million-dollar winner on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
Teacher Submitted Lesson Plans
Teacher-Submitted Lesson Plan is home to more than 100 teacher-created lessons. Each week during 2000, Education World lesson plan editor Lois Lewis selected one teacher-created lesson to highlight on our home page. The teacher who created that lesson earned a $50 honorarium and an Education World coffee mug. Go to the by date archive page to peruse the wide variety of lessons submitted by teachers this year. Better yet, why not submit one of your favorite lessons?
Diversity in Education
At Diversity in Education, we compile the latest Education World content that relates to our multicultural world. The section includes areas related to bilingualism, the digital divide, gender issues, special education, and rural and urban education.
Education World Notebooks
Four weekly columns began appearing on the Education World home page in the fall of 2000. Columnists Ellen Delisio, Diane Weaver Dunne, Wayne Watkins, and Gary Hopkins reflect on issues of importance to the education community. Many columns invite discussion by linking to message boards where any educator can share an opinion! Current columns include the Administrators Notebook, the School Issues Notebook, the Early Childhood Notebook, and the Diversity Notebook.
