EDUCATION WORLD'S COOL SCHOOL OF THE WEEK

Sponsored by Cisco Systems
NEW Cool School of the Year Program - contest for $10,000

If you're wondering what America's future generation is doing today, just take a look at the student award-winners of Education World's "Cool School of the Week" at www.education-world.com/cool_school.

Education World is the premier educator's guide to the Internet. It is designed especially for teachers, administrators, media specialists and everyone interested in integrating the Internet into education. With more than 100,000 links to education-specific Web sites, original lesson plans and weekly articles, Education World is the most comprehensive education site on the Net.

Every week Education World reviews hundreds of school Internet Web sites from across the country and chooses the best site to become the new Cool School of the Week. The Cool School staff seeks to award schools ranging from elementary to high school. This coveted award is given to school Web sites that best illustrate several qualities: visual appeal, creativity and originality, community involvement or connection, use of technology, value to students and school, ease of access and use, integration of curriculum on-line and practical applications in the educational setting. "The students work together as a team to create a great on-line resource that brings together both the school and the community," said Rob York, president of Concourse C, Inc., the producer of Education World. "They put a lot of time and work into creating these sites. We are honored to be able to recognize them for their hard work and achievement."

Education World's Cool School program is sponsored by Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO), a worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. Sponsorship of Education World is one part of Cisco's corporate-wide initiative to provide the benefits of Internet access and international communication in today's classrooms.

Steve Sandis, Education Program Manager for Cisco Systems said, "We are proud of the teamwork between Education World and Cisco Systems. It gives us yet another opportunity to make Cisco's tagline, 'Empowering the Internet Generation', a reality." Cool School award winners receive a commemorative plaque for their school, a hot link to the Education World Web site, Cool School award certificates for members of the Web site development team, exclusive Cool School T-shirts and mouse pads and a Cool School award winner button for the school Web site. Cool School award winners are also eligible to win the title of "Cool School of the Year."

Education World and Cisco Systems initiated the first annual Cool School of the Year program in May 1998. On-line popular voting and an expert panel of judges determined Georgia O'Keeffe Elementary School in Albuquerque, N.M. as the winner. For their national victory, they received over $10,000 in networking equipment from Cisco Systems, trophies and other prizes.

Past Cool School of the Week award winner Vic Noordhoek of Valley Center Middle School in Kansas says that Education World and the Internet are important parts of education. "Our goal is to make the Internet available for our students to access and research information. The Internet is a great communication tool that allows people the opportunity to obtain information about our school, as well as the community."

Thomas Sweeny, mathematics teacher in Berlin, N.H., also serves as the Webmaster for Berlin High School's Web site, another past Cool School winner. "The Web site creation turns kids on to learning," Sweeny said. "Web page development is the most cross-curricular endeavor I've ever seen. I find myself not only helping students learn math, but in putting together the Web site, we learn better writing skills together and are able to develop our creative skills."

Nominations for Cool School awards are accepted on the Education World Web site located at www.education-world.com/cool_school/#Nominate. Any school with a student-supported Internet Web site may be nominated.
