Education World.Com Forges Internet Education-To-Business Initiative With National Principals Association
ALEXANDRIA, VA--July 28, 2000-Education World.com Inc. and The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) today announced they are teaming up to provide technology-based resources to schools and to encourage and ease communications between schools and communities.
At a meeting of NAESP's Board of Directors and leaders of state affiliates, NAESP discussed its unique alliance with the Web-based Education World, a 4-year-old organization created as a search engine solely dedicated to educational Web sites.
"Technology has put educators in a new environment," said Vincent Ferrandino, NAESP's executive director. "Our members are inundated with invitations and solicitations from technology and Internet companies. We sifted through the burgeoning tech world to find the strongest Web-based site with the most potential for educators and families. Thus, we sought out Education World, which we believe is the leading site for content and services," he said.
For two years Education World has worked with NAESP, by advising on technical matters and staffing a Technology Learning Center at NAESP's annual convention that provides principals with user-friendly introductions to the Internet and other technologies.
As details of the NAESP-Education World relationship take form, both organizations remain focused on the goal of finding, developing, delivering, and customizing online content to provide sound and useful educational resources to NAESP members and their communities.
"We pledge to put the technological tools educators need at their fingertips," said Kevin Howell, CEO of Education World. "Those needs include better instructional resources, sources of new funding, fast access to information and training, better ways to motivate students and build community involvement, and, best of all, tools to help educators increase efficiency and save time."
The Education World alliance is intended to reinforce NAESP's nationwide campaign: Our Children, Our Schools, Our Future, that gives NAESP members a variety of tools and techniques to engage community support for their schools.
NAESP and Education World are considering the following services:
- Community access, which will assist principals and teachers in the crafting of Web- and home pages and offer access, through Education World's Internet service provider, to schools and families of their students.
- E-publishing that will offer schools a unique patented method to publish their own books.
- On-line professional development for principals.
All programs and services resulting from the alliance will be offered via NAESP's National Principals Resource Center (NPRC), a division of NAESP, created to forge alliances with businesses, universities, and foundations to add benefits and value to NAESP membership.
Established in 1921, the National Association of Elementary School Principals serves 28,000 elementary and middle school principals in the United States, Canada, and overseas.
Founded in 1996, Education World is headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey and provides 25,000 plus pages of original content and maintains the most powerful education-specific search engine and database. Over half a million educators visit its free Web site monthly.
