LEADING EDUCATION SITE READY TO SURF ON ITS OWN
Education World Forms Separate Entity From American Fidelity
PRINCETON, N.J. (August 28, 2000) -- Education World.comŽ, the leading Internet resource center for K-12 educators, announced today that due to growth and greater brand recognition it has transitioned from a division of Oklahoma-City based American Fidelity Corp. to a wholly owned subsidiary called Education World.com, Inc.
Since its inception in August 1996, monthly page views on www.educationworld.com have grown to five million and 500,000 unique users interested in education. Last month, Education World.com formed an alliance with the 35,000-member National Association of Elementary School Principals to ease communications among underfunded schools, busy parents and the broader communities through Web-based services.
"When the Internet became mainstream in the mid-1990s, we envisioned the impact it could have for every teacher and child in the classroom. American Fidelity already had expertise in providing services to the education community, so we integrated our hands-on experience with access to the worldwide library at the classroom level," said William Cameron, chairman of American Fidelity Corp.
Previously funded solely by American Fidelity, Education World.com is now in the process of raising external capital and building upon its existing strategic partnerships with key businesses and educational institutions.
"A competitive advantage we already enjoy as a new company is strong brand recognition and solid penetration in the education community," said Education World.com President Brian Mauck. "Bill Cameron's early vision to utilize the World Wide Web to serve the needs of educators was quickly adopted by the community. As the idea was further developed each year, Education World.com became the dominant site for educators."
Education World.com built its core base of educators by the strength of its classroom- appropriate resources and editorial content. Teachers and principals can save time surfing the Web for any topic on the Education World.com site and gain only information filtered for educational purposes. Currently, Education World.com links to 120,000 sites and has 25,000 original content pages, written by the company's staff of writers who all have experience in the educational field.
Education World.com has been recognized by numerous national awards, including "Best Education Resource on the Web" by Family PC magazine, "Best Bet for Educators" by USA Today, "#1 K-12 Education Site" by Lycos Best of the Web Top 5 percent, "Most Popular Sites" By Yahoo!, and a five-star rating by Encyclopedia Britannica.
Additional services available to educators through Education World.com are lesson plans, curriculum ideas, facilitated communication between teachers, administrators and parents, up-to-the- minute news in the education field, professional development, career resource center, and membership in a community of educational professionals who share similar concerns.
Sponsors and partners of Education World.com include Cisco Systems, Ask Jeeves for Kids, USA Today and many others.
"Practicality has been the key to our success," said Mauck. "It takes more than access to the Internet to make it functional for teachers, principals and students. We have taken the basic level of Internet access to a time-efficient practical application level, allowing educators to truly get the information they need at the click of a mouse in the shortest amount of time."
