Education World.com Names McGraw-Hill Executive Kevin Howell as CEO

PRINCETON, N.J., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Education World.com, Inc., the leading Internet resource center for K-12 educators, today announced Kevin Howell as chief executive officer. The former executive of McGraw-Hill Companies brings 18 years of experience in providing technology integration solutions to Fortune 100 companies. Howell will be based at Education World.com headquarters in Princeton.

Howell will lead growth strategies for Education World.com by developing education-to-business (E2B) connections with key business partners and educational alliances, and by broadening an edu-Web concept. Education World.com recently announced an E2B initiative with the 35,000-member National Association of Elementary School Principals to ease communications among underfunded schools, busy parents and the broader communities through Web- based services.

As a pioneer of e-commerce technologies, Kevin's expertise will support successful integration of the Internet, through Education World.com, into the classroom and students' lives,'' said Brian Mauck, president of Education World.com. ``Our vision for Education World.com is to maintain and grow our position as an educator's best friend.''

Education World.com is a one-stop gateway to the Internet for educators, allowing them to quickly find classroom-appropriate resources and editorial content, lesson planning activities, curriculum ideas, education site reviews and worldwide education employment listings. Currently, the site links to 120,000 educational Web sites and has 25,000 original content pages, written by staff writers who all have experience in the educational field. Founded in 1996, the educational site has grown to five million monthly page views and 500,000 unique monthly users interested in education.

Howell was the primary new media architect for key media properties of McGraw-Hill Companies. In 1996, he developed one of the first completely Web-enabled content sites called Construction.com, which has grown to become the leading vertical portal for the construction industry. He was also the technology leader for Business Week Online, which recently won a national magazine award for ``Best New Media Property,'' and launched Aviationnow.com, a leading information source for aviation and defense industries.

Previously, Howell served in a variety of management roles with Digital Equipment Corp. where he was recognized nine times with the company's highest honor, the challenge of excellence award, and received two service of excellence awards.

A graduate of Vassar College, Howell has authored articles published in journals by The Association for Quality and Participation and the American Society for Quality. The YMCA honored him in 1998 with the Black Achievement Award for Industry.
