FIRST E2B CONCEPT DRIVING SCHOOL WEB INTEGRATION
Educators Leading Classroom Technology Via Education World.com
PRINCETON, N.J. (Sept. 12, 2000) -- The education-to-business (E2B) concept recently launched by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and Education World.com positions educators at a new level to provide Web-based resources to the classroom.
The education-to-business concept, in which educators initiate the alliance, signifies a new way for education and business to work together. It encourages collaborative relationships between schools and businesses and aims to reinforce the leadership role that principals play in their schools and communities.
"After an intensive search, we found the right Web-based company to help our 28,500 members deliver technological programs and services to their schools," said Vincent Ferrandino, NAESP's executive director. "This alliance will enable teachers and principals to dictate the programs and services that fit their needs rather than vice versa with the technology companies leading the way. Our goal is to ensure that all principals know the most effective ways to use technology and the Internet for teaching, learning, and making business decisions. We believe our partnership with Education World.com and their network of partners will accomplish this."
In recent correspondence to leading education associations, Ferrandino discussed how other educational groups would benefit by bringing classroom-appropriate Web resources and business relationships to schools by embracing the E2B concept. "Until now, principals had to individually decipher the best technology path for their schools," he said. "We want to help principals move ahead to bring greater efficiency to school technology resources."
Education World.com, the leading Internet resource center for K-12 educators, provides a customized platform for principals to launch other school programs and services. With links to 120,000 educational Web sites and 25,000 original content pages written by staff writers from educational backgrounds, principals and their staffs will find professional development resources, daily education news, worldwide employment listings and e-commerce opportunities for schools at www.EducationWorld.com.
All programs and services resulting from the alliance between NAESP and Education World.com will be offered through the NAESP's National Principal Resource Center as an added benefit to NAESP members. Furthermore, several e-commerce revenue-generating opportunities for schools will be offered through the alliance. These include:
- Community Access. This service will assist principals and teachers as they craft school home pages that include tools to increase the lines of communication between the school and the home. Community Access will also offer Internet access to schools and students' families through Education World.com, with a percentage of the monthly fee going back to the student's school.
- E-publishing. This service will offer schools a unique opportunity to publish material through revolutionary new publishing on demand technology. Schools can print their own material, such as handbooks and classroom materials. For students, the "It's Our Book - Write it Loud" program encourages publication of written submissions as authentic looking "real," perfect-bound books. Sales of students' work may also provide income to the school.
