Education World Recruits Nickelodeon Technology Chief
PRINCETON, N.J. (Nov. 30, 2000) -- Education World Inc., the leading Internet resource center for K-12 educators, today announced Cooper Smith as chief technology officer. The former Nickelodeon technology executive brings 20 years of experience in a wide variety of platform technologies and media arts to Education World.
Smith is directing development of technology platforms and adapting advance digital technologies into Education World's Web site, www.educationworld.com. His expertise is instrumental in the recent launch of several education-to-business (E2B) initiatives such as the Community Access program, which sets up individual schools as Internet service providers for a year-round fundraiser and assists schools in creating homepages. Two national educational organizations have embraced the Community Access program for its members, the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Christian Schools Association.
"Cooper's unique background in 3-D computer animation and advance digital technologies brings us an energizing component that fits exceptionally well with our desire to make learning a fun experience," said Brian Mauck, president of Education World. "Our goal is to help educators make a difference in the lives of those in their school-centric community. Cooper's in-depth knowledge of creative technologies takes us a step closer in this direction."
Prior to joining Education World, Smith was director of technology at Nickelodeon Digital Lab and Animation Studios. The Harvard University graduate began his career in Boston when Massachusetts's Route 128 was the "Silicon Valley," providing professional technical consulting to some of the technology world's pioneers, Digital Equipment, Grace Corp. and ComputerVision. Smith broadened his technology skills into the world of finance where he worked on foreign exchange software for Citicorp Investment Bank both in London and New York, and also at Banco Nacional de Mexico and Standard Chartered Bank.
In 1991, Smith returned to professional technical consulting and attracted industry leaders, such as Dow Jones, Bank of America, Sandoz Pharmaceutical and McGraw-Hill Companies. Also, he published artistic works using sophisticated technologies for both Marvel Comics and Warner's D.C. Comics.
"Cooper has an uncommon ability to combine technical skills with creative media arts that we are excited to integrate into Education World's organization and to make available for schools through our Web site," added Mauck.
