National Education Reformer Jandris Named President of Education World
PRINCETON, N.J. (Jan. 11, 2001) -- Nationally renowned education reformer Thomas P. Jandris has joined Education World, Inc., the leading Internet resource center for K-12 educators. Education World (www.educationworld.com) today announced that Jandris will serve as president and chief education officer effective immediately.
Jandris has served as an education consultant to the Republican Governors' Association and the Lieutenant Governors' Association as well as to former Texas Governor George W. Bush and Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating. Florida Governor Jeb Bush enlisted Jandris to help draft the enabling legislation that would implement a constitutional amendment restructuring the governance of Florida's statewide education system. Jandris also served as lead consultant to the Governor of Michigan and the Mayor of Detroit during the city's public schools reform takeover.
"Dr. Jandris brings a unique combination of experience in education, from the classroom as a teacher to the boardroom as an executive," said Kevin Howell, chief executive officer of Education World. "His expertise both inside and outside school walls complements our revolutionary education-to-business initiative."
Education World recently announced an education-to-business initiative (E2B) to transform relationships between schools and businesses by positioning principals as community leaders in forging innovative alliances with businesses. Two E2B programs underway are Community Access, which enables a school to become an Internet service provider and create its own school-branded homepage; and e-Publishing, which gives schools the power to self-publish student-written books and learning materials using advanced print-on-demand technology. Both E2B programs are perpetual, year-round fundraisers for participating schools.
As president and chief education officer, Jandris will direct growth strategies for Education World by advancing the E2B initiative with education leaders nationwide and broadening the edu-Web concept throughout established educational institutions.
In addition to the 2000 Transition Team, Jandris is director of state services for the Education Commission of the States (ECS) where he has advised numerous governors, legislators and education leaders. His most recent work focused on designing and planning a comprehensive performance management system for the Cleveland Municipal Schools in Ohio.
Prior to ECS, Jandris had extensive careers in both education and the private sector. He was a teacher, principal and director of secondary education at a large urban district. He founded and grew a successful human resources consulting company.
Jandris is a past U.S. Olympic Team member and a syndicated columnist. He is a licensed psychologist who continues to teach at the graduate level. Jandris earned a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, an M.Ed. from Wayne State and a BS in Education from Eastern Illinois University.
