Young Authors and Artists Collaborate on Humanitarian Project
Parents at a Washington state elementary school organized a Share a Story student enrichment project that promoted the literacy and humanitarian goals of the school. The students shipped more than 1,000 books to schools in the South Pacific. Among the books were 115 the students had written themselves! What they got in return was a lot of satisfaction --- and a big surprise!

Mars Millenium Project
The Mars Millenium Project, an official White House Millenium Council Youth Initiative, challenges students across the United States to design an ideal community for the planet Mars that incorporates the best aspects of their own local communities. The project begins in the fall of 1999, but materials to prepare for it should be available this month.

Athena, Earth and Space Science for K-12
Athena engages students in observing natural phenomena using remote-sensed data to learn about the earth and sky. Here students can study ocean currents by tracking the movements of drift buoys, follow the progress of hurricanes and tropical storms from space, monitor earthquake activity with seismographic data from around the globe, or keep track of weather in space. Sea Turtle Migration-Tracking Education Program
This site includes information about sea turtle species, biology, habitat, and migration patterns. Teachers can send away for a free Educator's Guide to the site, which includes lesson plans and activities. The Bancroft Arnesen Expedition: Two Teachers Take to the Ice to Expand Classroom Walls
Braving wind and ice, Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen attempt to become the first women to cross Antarctica. As educators, they realize that the expedition could serve as an inspiration to children. As they struggle to attain their lifelong goal, they share their experiences with kids through the Internet. Canadian School Weaves Web of Peace
